Lisa Barry is a 5* event rider and trainer who has produced more than 25 successful sport horses to date. Many of them have become FEI-level event horses, with four successfully competing at the Advanced/CCI3*/CCI4*/CCI5* level. Barry competed at the 2015 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event aboard her beloved FIS Prince Charming, aka “Peanut,” a tiny, feisty New Zealand OTTB. She is currently producing her homebred mare, Rosie’s Aventadora (barn name Possum) at the CCI3* and Advanced level, in addition to bringing along a few young prospects.
Barry has been riding and competing horses for over 30 years, with over 20 years of international competition experience. She rode on the Area 8 NAJYRC CCI* team in 2002 and earned a silver medal on the Area 2 CCI2* team at the NAYRC in 2005. Her horses have had top placings at many FEI events.
Barry has trained with Olympic equestrian Karen O’Connor for over 25 years, initially joining the O’Connor program as a 17-year-old working student. Over the years, she has also ridden in lessons/clinics with Betsy Steiner, Jackie Brooks, Linda Zang, Anne Kursinski, John Madden, Capt. Mark Philips and Christopher Bartle. More recently, Barry has worked with Mattias Holberg and James Burtwell to further expand her knowledge and skills.
She enjoys breaking and training sport horses for competition, teaching and coaching riders at all levels, and producing solid horses for sale.
In addition to competing, Barry has also traveled around the world to groom at several major international competitions, including the Pan American Championships, the World Equestrian Games, Rolex and Badminton, for both American and Canadian riders.
